Ahem Theme

About

The Ahem Theme is based on Hemmed by Charlie. I really liked the design of Hemmed, but wanted to add a number of features and change some of the visual elements. Voila; Ahem was born.

Requirements

Ahem v1.0 was built and tested using Wordpress 2.1, but works fine on any version up to and including 2.23.

Ahem v1.1 introduced several small updates for WordPress v2.3 compatibility. If you are using WordPress 2.3 or newer, please ensure that you download v1.1 version above.

For best results, the following plugins should be used (but are not absolutely required):

License

Ahem is offered under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike License.

Keeping the footer links intact for myself and the original Hemmed theme would be greatly appreciated. As well, if you use the theme, please drop me a line!

Features

  • 2-column widget-ready sidebar layout for Wordpress
  • Navigation bar (pages-based)
  • Tweakable 3-column information bar with support for recent entries, recent comments, and links
  • Valid XHTML and CSS

Support

I'll provide as much support as time permits. If you find a problem or need help, please leave a comment in this related post.

Tweaking

  1. The footer contains a 'this site is x years and days old' note. You can make this date calculation accurate for your site by finding the line strtotime('March 3rd, 2007') and replacing March 3rd, 2007 with the date that your site was started (i.e., April 1st, 2005).
  2. To adjust the number of recent entries displayed in the bottom bar, edit bottombar.php. Find the line < ?php query_posts('showposts=11'); ?> and change the numeric value (default is 11) to whatever number of posts you want to display.
  3. To adjust the number of links displayed in the bottom bar, edit bottombar.php. Find the line < ?php get_links('-1', '<li>', '', '<br />', FALSE, 'rand', FALSE, FALSE, 13, TRUE); ?> and change the second-last numeric value (default is 13) to whatever number of links you want to display.
  4. If you're using The Excerpt Reloaded plugin and you use many images in your posts, you may want to disable the use of images in excerpts. In a scenario where you have many images at the top of a post, The Excerpt Reloaded may mush up front page display. You can disable display of images by editing the Main Index Template and removing the img tag from the parameter list in the code < ?php the_excerpt_reloaded(110, '<img><p><a></a></p>.
