PETITION TO FIRE RICHARD PEDDIE. NOW.

January 13th, 2008 · 41 Comments

Richard Peddie is the President and CEO of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, the company that owns and operates the Toronto Maple Leafs NHL hockey club.

He is hated by fans for decisions like hiring a completely inexperienced General Manager in John Feguson Jr. -- and as was revealed this past Saturday evening -- taking a pass on hiring the legendary Scotty Bowman to turn around the fortunes of the Leafs. Scotty Bowman has built teams that have won the Stanley Cup nine times. To repeat: NINE STANLEY CUPS.

Any die-hard Leafs fan will tell you that jumping the bandwagon or switching allegiances is not an option. Enough is enough, though. When I start missing the days of Harold Ballard, something is seriously wrong. I want Peddie's head on a plate, and I want it now.

Not that it will make a lick of difference, but I've set up a petition calling for the MLSE Board to shitcan Richard Peddie immediately. For the love of all things holy, sign it. Tell your friends to sign it. Ask your Mother to sign it. Fake a signature from your dog...

    I will bring the rope!

  • 2 1LN // Jan 14, 2008 at 1:08 pm

He knows nothing about sports. Stern had to come in and save the Raptors. The Leafs are the laughing stock of the league when it comes to how a hockey team should be managed!

  • 3 MooseOAK // Jan 14, 2008 at 1:15 pm

I hate MLSE and the Leafs. Fire them all.

  • 4 Pat Quinn // Jan 14, 2008 at 1:21 pm

    fuck him

  • 5 Richard Peddie // Jan 14, 2008 at 1:40 pm

  • 7 Tie-Domi-sucks // Jan 14, 2008 at 4:07 pm

Buh bye Peddie! you good for nothing bottom line, bottom feeding hack. Let's clean house! You've ruined our team.

  • 8 Sundin is GOD // Jan 14, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Not even trading Matts can save this sinking ship. Thanks so much Peddie you've done just about everything you can wrong. Go make money let someone who knows what they are doing make a winning hockey team.

  • 9 Paul Maurice // Jan 14, 2008 at 5:37 pm

He is doing a great job! You will see, we will make the playoffs and complete for the Stanley Cup.

  • 10 trevor haskell // Jan 14, 2008 at 6:03 pm

PLEASE GET RID OF THIS DOUCHE BAG!!!!

    FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

keep paul maurice. its not his fault. i agree he has made some STUPID decisions. But he is one of the last people to blame.

get JFJ out of there too!

    PLEASE!

  • 11 Jesse // Jan 14, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Fire Peddie....TML Management are just a bunch of clowns who have no direction whatever of where this team is going...This upper management decision of what trades JFJ can or can't make is so dumb.So fire Peddie,Tanenbaum and get the teachers pension out of there too....Fire all of them along with Fergie and give this team a new idenity.TML Forever!!!! Oh,Paul Maurice stays!!!
He's got nothing to work with except Sundin,Toskala & Kabby & Antropov & Ponikarovsky !!! Rest are alright players but they just aren't cutting it. Goodbye Peddie & Co.....Bye,bye Fergie....Nice Knowin' Ya!!!

  • 12 I.M. Windbag // Jan 14, 2008 at 11:07 pm

Peddie is a dingbat who couldn't manage his way out of a cardboard box with a pair of scissors and a blow torch. As an executive, the guy is as about as effective as Carrot Top is funny.

  • 13 Peter Mantas // Jan 15, 2008 at 7:16 am

    Hang him i say!

  • 14 Ron // Jan 15, 2008 at 8:11 am

The insanity has to stop. Toss out this ego maniac and give the power to run the team to Ferguson and Maurice.

Peddie has placed shackles on JFJ's ability to run the day to day business of the Leafs.
As a fan I'm tired of the dog and pony show in the media almost everyday. It's no wonder why so many on this team would love to be traded.

  • 15 t1tippy // Jan 15, 2008 at 8:15 am

  • 17 Johnny Lade // Jan 15, 2008 at 9:51 am

Since when do business men know anything about hockey? Richard should bite the bullet and realize he knows nothing about hockey or basketball. Look how Brian C has turned around the Raptors. If it's pride get over it.

  • 18 Peddie Smasher // Jan 15, 2008 at 11:37 am

    Fire Peddie!

  • 19 Anthony Paul // Jan 15, 2008 at 1:40 pm

This is a tragedy of epic proportion.
The Montreal Canadiens would not tolerate ineptitude for a prolonged period.
How is it that Toronto, acknowledged as the Mecca of Hockey, is forced to endure yet another year of blundering mismanagement that is, sadly, reflected on the ice surface.

  • 20 everbody's wrong // Jan 15, 2008 at 1:42 pm

What everybody forgets is that hockey is a business. As a business, the leafs are the best in the nhl. Why would you want to fire the guy who has kept the team on a par with the dallas cowboys & ny yankees??? This isn't some beer league or high school team where evrybody goes rah rah, go team go!! The team is supposed to make money, not win stanley cups. Keep peddie as long as the cash registers are going ca-ching.

  • 21 Fake Peddie // Jan 15, 2008 at 2:04 pm

    Hello Loyal Followers,
As your leader I allow you the fact that things are going exactly as plannined, but fear not! I am here to stay. You will never be without Peddie to guide Leafs Nation to continuing glory. I think it's time we do away with all this negative media, MLSE might just have to buy TSN and start doing all the pieces on me and how great a job I've done with the Leafs!
Now keep paying for your leaf merchandise and keep cheering...all is well in Leafland.
    Yours Truly,
    Fake Peddie

To the user: Everybody's Wrong...you're right. I am great. Thanks for noticing.

  • 23 sean beson // Jan 15, 2008 at 2:49 pm

If seen more passion to win from house leauge teams. And I don't blame the players (atleast not all) But MLSE needs to know this town deserves respect, and hiring a rookie Gm and and a package foods CEO "DOES NOT" scream the dedication to the team they ask of the players!

  • 24 Daniel // Jan 15, 2008 at 3:51 pm

I agree Richard Peddie should go. However, we as Leaf fans are the problem. As long as we continue to fill the ACC regardless of how poor the team is doing MLSE will have no incentive to fire this guy.

Unfortunate as the Leafs poor direction is killing me on the inside.

  • 25 David Hirtz // Jan 15, 2008 at 4:26 pm

get rid of him, he knows nothing about hockey!!!!

  • 26 Anthony // Jan 15, 2008 at 4:59 pm

As a die hard Habs fan, I desperately need the Leafs to be competative. It's no fun beating the Maple Loafs when they suck as bad as they are right now. Richard Peddie knows a great deal about anything other than hockey. He appears to be standing in the way of the Loafs improving. He opposed MLSE from bringing in Scotty Bowman, arguably the greatest hockey mind of the last 50+ years. He has outright emasculated JFJ and Paul Maurice. For the sake of the rivalry and the NHL, which needs a strong team in Toronto, MLSE should, in the most unceremoniously manner posible, get rid of this bafoon. Unfortunately, it is the Ontario Teacher's Pention Fund that should bare the majority of the brunt. They don't give a rat's poop about the team as long as they get their MONEY.
While I'm on this rant, when will JFJ grow some testicale and just quit. How can he sit their and even pretend to think he's doing any general manegerial duties?
Firing Peddie is a grood start, but having a person with unlimited stupid money to buy the team outright and running it to make it a winner; just not good enough to beat my beloved Habs!
All the way in '08, Habs!

  • 27 ed gerber // Jan 15, 2008 at 7:00 pm

just leave ,you almost killed the rapters leave our leafs alone

  • 28 Fake Peddie // Jan 15, 2008 at 8:49 pm

Enough of this hate! I will not walk away, I'm fake peddie! I'll keep making millions for MLSE while you keep buying our merchandise. Everyone has a part to keep making me a success.

  • 29 Dan McKeown // Jan 16, 2008 at 12:14 pm

This guy(Peddie) think's he is Harold Ballard!!

    Well Sir.. Your NOT!!

Ballard had more class in his "pinky finger" then you sir...

Don't get me wrong...Ballard was an SOB,however he made deals when he needed to, and he fired people when he needed to.

Most of all he treated the players with respect.

    Thank You.

    Dan

  • 30 Brad Bryce // Jan 16, 2008 at 12:55 pm

Fire the SOB NOW!!!!!! Enough is enough!! Let's tear it all down and start again! Trade Sundin to get draft picks and build for the future!

  • 31 PEDDIE IS A FUCKING DOUCEBAG // Jan 16, 2008 at 1:12 pm

FUCK RICHArd PEDDIE. HE has DONE NOTHING GOOD FOR THE LEAFS. FUCK HIM I HATE HIM SO MUCH

  • 32 Ronnie // Jan 16, 2008 at 3:27 pm

The leafs suck but the ACC is sold out every game.
Peddie is getting a luagh out of this....sitting in his office counting his profits and thinking to himself what MORONS leafs fans are.
You want to make a statement as a lLeafs Fan then STOP GOING TO THE GAMES.

  • 33 AD // Jan 17, 2008 at 3:04 pm

I'm a Sens fan..and even I am so pissed at how incompetent management is for the Leafs. I mean the Leafs are supposed to be the hockey mecca of this league...and they can't even make the playoffs...i mean..its not hard to make changes..good teams do it all the time! So yeah...fire Peddie...cuz people can blame JFJ all they want...but at the end of the day he has to go through peddie and the stupid board...so for all we know...maybe JFJ has tried to make changes and has been vetoed on all his decisions!

  • 34 Trevor Sims // Jan 17, 2008 at 7:26 pm

richard peddie has got to go or the maple leafs will never win a stanley cup again over 40 years with out a cup what a fuckin descrace we are supposed to be the hockey city of all hockey cities and what the fuck is going on here fire the fuckin guy and start it all over again. Draft some young players trade all the fuckin bums we have now to get vincent lecavalea and rebuild around him a true superstar of the new nhl.

  • 35 Ron K // Jan 17, 2008 at 9:42 pm

I agree, I think JFJ has been handcuffed he is nothing but a puppet on a string. Get rid of Peddie and let JFJ loose I have a good feeling that could unleash a great contending team.
So I say Fire The unskilled and unknowlagable
    suit.

  • 36 hugh jorgan // Jan 18, 2008 at 3:32 pm

    Put Fletcher in net.

  • 37 nick thomas // Jan 18, 2008 at 7:36 pm

We shouldnt necessarily fire Richard Peddie but relieve him of hockey related responsibilities. Admittedly, I am not sure of all the responsibilities he has with the company but I would imagine the board must be pleased with his abilities and competencies in some areas.
The Hockey operations however should truly be run by hockey people. Richard is not a hockey person thus his evaluation of talent and understanding of skillsets in searching talent appears to be challenged.

  • 38 BRIAN McGILL // Jan 22, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Peddie is making a mockery of the leafs organization. Now to take another step into the past is a latteral move. Stay away from the hockey team and make financial decisions only!!!!

  • 39 Jeff // Jan 24, 2008 at 4:45 pm

I believe someone made this point earlier.. there is no reason for Mr. Peddie to be fired. Those of you who blame him for the mishaps of the Leafs obviously have little to no business sense. It comes down to dollars and cents.. Richard makes money.. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the Leafs franchise is the MOST profitable in the entire league. That, my friends is why he is good at his job and will most likely not get fired.

  • 40 Kenny // Mar 31, 2008 at 3:10 pm

Fire that son of a bitch.

  • 41 Go Peddie Go // Apr 5, 2008 at 5:51 pm

Richard Peddie can run a successful business. Look at his resume and see how many companies he has been in charge of, it is a true reflection of his ability. The Leafs have grown from a $400 million enterprise to a whopping $1.5 billion approx.
