Throughout the four years that I lived in Peterborough, I cannot recall stopping to inspect the Peterborough Lift Lock. though I did drive through the roadway tunnel many times.

The thing is big. Very big. You can’t quite appreciate the dimensions of it until you start climbing around on the stairs to get at it from different angles. The lift is somewhere around 20 metres, which I suspect is among the larger locks in the world.
