Could someone that works in retail please explain to me why extended warranty programs are pushed so hard? While buying a camera today, I had to refuse the advances of two separate sales people. Only after threatening to leave the store was I allowed to refuse. Whatever the commission structure, it can’t be good enough to lose a sale altogether.

In other news, I’ve let my hair go positively berserk. Growth has surpassed light speed levels and may even have broken the ludicrous speed barrier. Combine that with a several weeks worth full beard and you end up with people apprehensively referencing you as ’sir’.

My father thinks I look like a ‘yuppie’, although I suspect that he meant ‘hippie’. My girlfriend’s mother fondled my head and pined over the increasingly unruly curls found there. The most flattering (or shaming) assessment thus far has come from a co-worker who claimed that I look like Jim Lane from the infamous 1978 Microsoft photograph.

In the interests of tradition, I’ve kept the holiday purchasing streak alive. Last year I broke all of my prior Christmas shopping records handily, but this year my overall time doubled from 2.5 to 5 hours. In my own defense, other meaningful measures have improved:

  • Gifts Purchased: 14
  • People Purchased For: 10
  • Stores Visited: 8
  • Total Cost: ~$900.00
  • Time Spent: 5 hours

In the event that I don’t post for a few days, happy holidays and all that jazz.
