If there was any question about the D70 being sensitive to the cold, it has been answered — it worked like a champ at -25c while I pretended to understand manual settings.

These first two shots of a nearly identical scene were taken at 1/250 and 1/1000 second shutter speed, respectively. The final two shots show cropped versions of the same photographs and demonstrate the difference that shutter speed makes. This may not come as a surprise to “photographers”, but I am a “computer guy”, so please be patient.

In other news, if you have a D70, shoot in Nikon NEF (RAW) mode. For obvious reasons, it makes a significant difference in output quality over lossy JPEG - especially if you do any post processing. There is no substitute for pixel data.
