Do Not Operate Heavy Machinery
After another rapid-fire Halifax trip, I’m back in Ottawa and trying to recover from 30 hours of driving over three days.
I borrowed an iQue 3600 GPS for the trip, which turned out to be a fun diversion — from paying attention to the road. Despite the belligerent on-screen warnings about using the device while driving, I couldn’t help myself.
The best (and most dangerous) part of the whole thing is the trip computer. It constantly calculates average speed over time and distance, and so I became a tad obsessed with ensuring respectable numbers. What the image here doesn’t show is that the trip to Halifax (~1500km) took 13 hours flat with 25 minutes of ’stop time’. My average speed was around 115kph, which is very decent considering I stopped for gas four times and hit Montreal during heavy traffic. I blame my girlfriend for the degraded numbers on the way back.
There wasn’t much time for anything but driving, so I’m ashamed to say that pictures are on the light side this time around. The shots below were taken during a quick road-side stop between a gas station and small airport near the New Brunswick/Quebec border.
