I Know Nothing
If there’s one thing I learned during my camping trip to Bon Echo Provincial Park this weekend, its that I am a lightweight when it comes to SLR cameras.
I’ll openly admit that the Nikon D70 is a befuddling piece of equipment that, at this point, is a bit out of sorts in my hands. I’m going to take an orientation course and hopefully get matters under control. It occurred to me this weekend that I’ve had a digital camera for as long as I’ve cared to take photos, and that any film cameras I’ve owned were of the sub-$10 variety.
There are a few pictures up, but nothing spectacular. The whole progression of pictures was taken over two hours or so and consisted mostly of me playing with buttons.
On a different topic, our camp site was horrendous. It was essentially a 4-car parking lot stuffed between the men’s outhouse, a public water tap, and an intersection. Bon Echo was a much more impressive park back when I was a kid and hadn’t seen anything better.
Anyhow, I’ve taken vacation this week, so hopefully you’ll see some additional (better quality) pictures in the coming days.

I was at Bon Echo the weekend prior, and although I had a nice time, I wasn’t hugely impressed by the campsites either.
Congratulations regarding your new Nikon!
I’m glad you are more proactive about getting your pictures online in a timely manner than I am! :)
Dennis, you’ve got a good eye and your composition is quite strong for the most part. Don’t feel bad about not knowing how all the parts of your camera work - that will come with time.
You’ve already nailed down a much more important skill, one that most people never will.
Kudos.
j: The tell-tale event at Bon Echo was a car alarm going off at 4am (and 6am). Nobody should ever hear a car alarm while camping.
Sean: Thanks very much. That is high praise coming from someone who obviously does know what they’re doing. :)
I also spent this weekend taking pictures of lily pads and fallen trees. Nice shots!! Since mine were taken with a far inferior camera, I can only hope they look half as good.
