Moving Off of Movable Type?
I’m in the early stages of a complete site redesign, and it occurred to me that now would be the optimum time to settle the question of which content management tool to use.
I’ve been using Moveable Type for quite some time, and have generally been extremely happy. Despite all of the shenanigans with the latest release, I’m tempted to upgrade to 3.0 simply for the convenience factor.
Having said that, other tools like WordPress and Textpattern are looking awfully inviting with their substantial community support and price tags. I’m also curious about Nucleus CMS. I’m certainly not opposed to buying MT if the new features warrant it, though I am somewhat worried about continued plug-in support from the developer community. I’m also not entirely sold on the TypeKey idea.
Does anybody have anything good, bad, or indifferent to say about any of these tools (especially as it relates to an MT upgrade)?

I ended up switching to Expression Engine from MT. I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am that I made that decision. EE has no rebuilds, the tags are way way way easier to understand, there’s a built in moblog module, it takes up a lot less space on the server. There’s really no drawback.
I’ve upgraded to MT 3.0. The migration itself wasn’t too painful, but retrofitting my heavily bastardized installation (especially where CSS and tags were concerned) was tricky. Hence the updated default template.
I plan to install WordPress for fun, and have a complete backup of my 2.6 installation. If all else fails, I can still back out.
I’m still not sold on commenting in 3.0 (or more specificially, without MT-Blacklist). I’ve had about a dozen spam comments since this morning, which prompted me to enable moderation.
I’m getting ready to move to new servers with a new host, and I’m considering moving everything over to EE. We shall see. I like the new look so far! :)
Well, you probably know I’m using Textpattern. I don’t regret for a moment having abandoned MT - not so much (though slightly) because of MT; mostly because of Textpattern. :)
Is there a free version of EE?
