Would it be considered ill-mannered to mention that today is the second birthday of this very weblog? Well, it is — and here’s the first self-absorbed entry that started it all.

Before 2000 (when dennis.ca was registered), I kept numerous websites on numerous hosts using numerous generously provided shell accounts. The domain was initially going to be used only as a mail server, but being such a trendy guy, the weblog eventually appeared.

The intent was to quell some of my (ir)rational paranoia about revealing personal information online (and probably offline, as well). It worked. Sort of. Either way, it’s been fun and I’m glad that I didn’t fall into the “I can’t write/don’t have time for/am not happy with my weblog” self-pity spiel. I could just be too dense to recognize when enough is enough, though.

Over the past 6 months, traffic has increased considerably to around 250 unique visits per day. Despite what anyone says, it is nice to know that you’re not just typing at yourself. Thanks to everyone who drops in from time to time, and especially to everyone from the early days who have stuck around.

Anyway, here’s to a few more years of nonsense.
