Head Honcho/Head Honcho
Is there such a thing as being too concerned about political correctness and cultural sensitivity?
“Los Angeles officials have asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using the terms ‘master’ and ’slave’ on computer equipment, saying such terms are unacceptable and offensive.”
Perhaps I myself am unacceptable and offensive, but I think we might be getting a little out of hand. I’m sure we could find some poignant arguments against copying data from a ’source’ to a ‘destination’. In fact, you may be directly involved in the treachery — how could you possibly defend using your client to interact with my server?!
Should we use terms like “device responsible for managerial duties only because of luck-of-the-draw” and “equally capable and ambitious device that is graciously willing to accept instruction from ‘device responsible for managerial duties only because of luck-of-the-draw’”?
Is this making sense or is everyone slack-jawed in horror, rushing to call the sensitivity police?
