I’m not sure if this wasn’t reported widely or if I was simply ignoring the world, but… Tonight when I decided to search Google for the spyware-free P2P tool “Kazaa Lite“. I was rather surprised to find the following message appended to the search results:

“In response to a complaint we received under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 11 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint for these removed results.”

Full marks to Google for announcing the tampering (a quick check of several other search engines revealed no warning whatsoever). Read the complaint that originated from Sharman Networks (makers of Kazaa) for all the gory details.

Let it be known that I hate censorship — especially censorship in the name of greed in combination with the ill-concieved, farcical DMCA. If Kazaa didn’t bundle spyware/malware/tracking software in their product, Kazaa Lite wouldn’t exist. Period.
