My Chow Fon’s Gone
Out of concern for privacy (or flat-out paranoia), I’m currently blocking search engine indexing for everything on this site except the Gallery.
I should qualify that by saying I use the ‘Web Robots‘ blocking method. Only those search engines that kindly consider these standards observe the indexing restrictions.
In any event, I’m thinking of removing this limitation for the weblog and am curious to know if anyone has anything good/bad/indifferent to say about doing so? I don’t really love the idea of Google caching information for months on end, but…

A couple of articles here you might find of interest in your pursuit to deal with spambots.. http://five2one.org/articles/
I don’t actually have a problem with spambots as all email addresses here are obfuscated.
I think I’ll allow the weblog to be indexed, but qualify each page with a ‘noarchive’ meta tag. That should be a decent compromise. Hopefully… :)

Of….?
(I just need to know if I should be worried, too.)
ahh .. I misunderstood .. which is kinda what I figured after I posted it. ;)
I’m paranoid in general about all things related to privacy and online security. I always was, but it was amplified when I started working in the field.
The idea of having anything personal stored in a search engine cache for all eternity doesn’t appeal to me. Google freaked me out a bit with their DejaNews acquisition, and consequently all Usenet messages since the dawn of time.
This website, I think, was some kind of subconscious self-therapy to cut down on my disturbing paranoia quotient. The jury is still out on whether it worked. :)
