Funbag
Having a job involves more than cash, a free parking spot in another part of town, and access to stationary supplies. Savvy individuals will leverage their position in the working class as a rationalization mechanism for profound post-work laziness.
This ideology meshes well with another of my core beliefs — peak laziness involves sitting on the couch and watching cartoons.
So, on this night I stumbled onto a cartoon after my own heart — Undergrads. The story revolves around a group of university friends. Based on the episode I saw it’ll probably appeal to almost any mid-20s guy who understands Star Trek vs. Star Wars, internet porn, the benefit of an enormous bladder, and when to call bullshit on your friend’s pick-up stories. It’s damn funny.
The characters themselves might just be based on my school current friends — you decide who’s who: Nitz (the laid-back nice guy who’s a little too clever for his own good), Gimpy (the paranoid anti-establishment supergeek), Rocko (the perpetually drunk porn-monger/troublemaker), and Cal (the frighteningly stupid but athletic guy who attracts girls).
For the record — this is going onto my answering machine.
As it turns out, the show is made by an Ottawa company called Funbag (I know!) Coincidence being completely on my side, I’ve got a friend who works as an animator there. A perfect excuse to go out for a pint on the weekend and catch up on old times.
This job business may just work out.
