Genuine Geeks FTW!

Kim PoirierIf I seem a bit downtrodden, it's only because my television girlfriend Kim Poirier is no longer hosting HypaSpace on SPACE: The Imagination Station. I'll admit to having a minor crush on the effervescent Poirier. I'm relatively certain that when she ended her segments with a sparkling "bye!" that they were being directed specifically to me. In my defense, the demographic pressures were impossible to resist when she spoke about robots, action figures, and comic books.

For those not in Canada, SPACE is a cable channel similar to SCI FI in the United States. HypaSpace is a daily (and weekly) entertainment program covering science fiction, fantasy, and general geekiness.

Kim began hosting the program in 2005. Original host Jonathan Lyr was ousted. Now that Kim is gone it appears that Jonathan has been ousted yet again in favour of Danielle McGimsie. Aside from the fact that she worked (works?) for the brain-numbing entertainment channel StarTV, I don't know anything about her. I'd bet a few standard units that she doesn't know what a bar of latinum is, though. With all due respect, the one thing TV doesn't need is another script reader with fabulous hair and zero comprehension of the material being presented.

To that end, I'm puzzled as to why Jonathan Lyr and Natasha Eloi have been stepped over. Jonathan gets points simply because he completely looks like a dork and used to skip classes to watch Star Trek movies. Natasha is certified hardcore after surviving some of her It Came From the Basement! adventures. Either one of them would have been a perfect drop-in replacement for Kim. More importantly, it would have given me personal satisfaction. Frankly, it should be the primary goal of media gorilla CTVglobemedia to cater to my whims.

In any event, good luck to Kim in her acting endeavors with Paradise Falls and elsewhere. CTV/SPACE -- do the right thing and promote from within! Geeks WTF!
