The next time you're lamenting about how many emails you need to deal with, give poor Dennis some consideration...
My work email Inbox contains a whopping 12,345 (I can't wait until I hit 123,456!) messages, and that was after a clean-up of around 400 messages this morning. I have 1446 unread messages in my Inbox, and 536 messages flagged for follow-up action.
I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 rule filters that punt messages into various folders hierarchies, but I can't bring myself to tally those up for fear of having a nervous breakdown.
I spend roughly 1/3 of my day on email, 1/3 on the phone, and 1/3 dealing with people who are irate for one reason or another. That leaves my own personal time to get some actual work done.
Isn't middle-management great?!

I know exactly how you feel :)
My personal inbox has 12751 emails and rising and I consider that account to be quite managable :) My work account would probably have well in excess of 1/2 million emails...

Michele: That makes me feel a little less alone in the world (and also a little nervous, somehow!) :)
