Free Money!

So, to start things off on the right foot, a nice solid rant --

3.5 years ago I worked for a small company which looked like a good idea at the time. The thought process went something like this:

-- Work for small company to get more experience
-- Work like a demon for recognition
-- Get paid poorly at first, then make out like a bandit
-- Bask in the glory of stock options

Then, once I reality kicked in, the situation became clear:

-- Work for a small company to get more experience
-- Work like a demon for frustratingly little recognition
-- Get paid poorly at first, then watch the company go bankrupt
-- Bask in the glory of a class action lawsuit for unpaid wages

After dealing with the aces at the Ministry of Labour, I decided to forget about squeezing any cash out of the place. Debtors of bankrupt companies always fall in line behind suppliers to those companies. Bitterness ensued.

Then, today, a strange letter from Los Angeles arrives... Apparently I'm a part of a class-action lawsuit against the corporation, which has been reorganized with specific intent to settle outstanding debts. The company invested in stock -- 7 millions shares of stock -- of another dot-com.

The letter also contains a cheque (US funds!), which is "the first in a series of quarterly installments"...

Holy shit!
